50W modeling amp with 11 amp models, 8 effects, USB sound card, etc.
Big ambitions
The VOX Cambridge50 is an ambitious product that embraces the new possibilities that modeling technology brings to the guitar amplifier. It uses Virtual Element Technology ("VET") to deliver realistic and stage-ready sounds, NuTube to deliver the characteristic distortion, fast response and tonal character of tubes that cannot yet be fully replicated by digital technology, all housed in an open-back cabinet equipped with a 12" Celestion speaker. The VOX Cambridge50 guitar amplifier is a successful fusion of these three elements and a powerful modeling amplifier. With 50W of output power and versatile functionality, it is a great choice not only for live performance, but also for home practice or recording.
Celestion VX-12
The VOX Cambridge50 features a Celestion VX12 speaker that takes full advantage of the 50W output power. The back of the unit has an open structure that delivers the open and crisp sound you expect from a 12" speaker.
NuTube tube
The VOX Cambridge50 is equipped with a NuTube, the next generation of vacuum tubes. Using electro-luminescent technology with the same structure as a conventional vacuum tube, NuTube has been introduced in a number of products from VOX and others. The distortion and sense of compression that you expect from a vacuum tube, and even the response and playability, NuTube delivers with great conviction. In addition to making the amplifier significantly lighter, NuTube adds additional unique benefits such as being maintenance-free and cost-effective.
11 amplifier models
Thanks to years of modeling amp development, VOX delivers the ultimate in sound. Proprietary VET (Virtual Element Technology) enables unprecedented realism, with detailed analysis of the original circuitry, and meticulous modeling of individual components that all affect the sound. In addition to the sound of the classic AC30, this one unit lets you choose from a diverse array of sounds, including models of famous tube amps, modern high-gain amps, and rare boutique amps. Recently added is a LINE type that supports not only electric guitar but also acoustic guitar, further expanding the usability.
8 effect types
You'll also find a selection of the most commonly used effect types to help shape your sound. You can use two effects simultaneously, modulation and delay/reverb, and choose between four types of each, giving you a total of eight variations. There's also a push button so you can set parameters such as delay time in an intuitive way.
USB audio interface
The VOX Cambridge50 has a built-in USB sound card that lets you connect to your computer via USB and record the NuTube audio directly. So as well as being the perfect partner on stage, this unit is also ready to integrate with your home studio.
Tuner and other smart features
The built-in tuner is just one of the many features that help you as a guitarist. The AUX input lets you jam to an external audio source, the headphone/line-out jack with built-in cabinet simulator allows you to practice at home without waking the family, there are presets so you can quickly recall your favorite settings, and there's also a manual mode that instantly recalls the physical button positions.
Add a foot switch
The separately sold VFS5 footswitch lets you switch programs with your foot. When the VFS5 is connected, the program memory is expanded to 8 presets.
Software
The Tone Room editor/preset software gives you access to parameters not available from the device itself and lets you save your settings to a library. In addition to Mac/Windows, iOS/Android is also supported, so you can use the type of device that best suits your needs.
With the JamVOX III modeling software, you can expand your sonic universe when you connect your Vox Cambridge50 to your PC or Mac. The GXT function lets you isolate, emphasize or remove a specific voice from an existing song. You can also use the music player function to play a loop of a song you're learning or practicing, and even change the tempo. ASIO drivers are available, so you can also record and play back through software other than the JamVOX III, such as a DAW or guitar amp simulator.
